And the Beat Goes On: Music in Lampasas County, 1880-2023
According to the Lampasas Dispatch, October 17, 1871, in the entire county “there were only three buggies and two pianos or organs.” This status of the musical offerings in the county was due to quickly change as a result of the arrival of the railroad in 1882 and the building of the Park Hotel in 1883. The prospering community was being populated by families with cultivated tastes who focused on improving the cultural offerings available to residents and visitors to the county.
Since that auspicious beginning, county residents’ musical interests and needs have continued to thrive throughout the years. Opportunties presented through performances by local musicians, the media, religious, and community sponsored events such as Spring HO, provide a wealth of musical options for residents to enjoy.
The Lampasas County Museum is proud to announce our new exhibit that focuses on the long historical interest and participation in musical offerings in our county. In addition to our extensive exhibits, we will have entertainers performing each Saturday afternoon at 1 and 2 p.m. throughout the months of February, March, and April. Please plan to attend and enjoy all we and our musical guests have to offer!
